About Us
S-Ridge Ranch is owned and operated by Allen Stauffenecker, a 5th generation turkey farmer, and his wife Jillyne. Together they established S-Ridge Ranch in 2010. Their three farms are located in northwest Minnesota where they raise approximately five million pounds of turkey annually. their goal is to produce Fresh, healthy, Grade A whole birds. Allen serves as an active board member for Northern Pride, Inc., the grower owned processing facility where all of S-Ridge Ranch turkeys are sold to and processed.

Turkey Facts & Trivia
1. Only male turkeys gobble. Turkeys make a variety of different sounds, but the famous “gobble” call is only done by males during mating season. As a result, male turkeys are called “gobblers” (or sometimes "toms") while females are called “hens.”
2. Turkeys can see better than humans. Among the more surprising facts about turkeys is that they have three-times better vision than humans. They can also see in color, and their eyesight covers 270 degrees.
3. They can change colors. Well, their heads do at least! You can tell a turkey’s emotions by the color of their heads. Colors can change from red to blue to white, depending on how excited or calm they are. The more intense the colors are, the more intense their emotions.
4. Their poop determines if they’re male or female. One certain way to find out if a turkey is male or female is by checking their droppings. A male’s poop will be shaped like the letter J, while the female’s is more spiral-shaped.
5. How much turkey does a person eat per year? The average person in the United States will eat 15 pounds of turkey this year.
6. What is a baby turkey called? A baby turkey is called a poult.
7. Which state raises the most turkeys? Minnesota is the number-one state in rearing turkeys in the United States. There are an estimated 44 million turkeys reared around the state. Turkey farming in Minnesota is a family tradition which transcends several generations. There are about 450 families in the state which are involved in turkey rearing. Millions of pounds of turkey are ordered from these farmers each year, with orders peaking during Thanksgiving.
